One such prospect is Elijah Dunham, a 24-year-old outfielder from Indiana who combines power and a compact swing with selectivity at the plate. Dunham originally went undrafted, as he became available out of college in the pandemic-shortened 2020 season. Breaking out in the Arizona Fall League in 2021, he had performed well enough at High-A Hudson Valley that he was selected to represent the Yankees in fall competition.

Surrounded by top prospects, Dunham found his momentum, batting a sizzling .357 across 23 games while striking out in less than 10 percent of at-bats. While this set the stage, it has been Dunham’s performance since that has some calling for him to get a roster spot on the Yankees. Having stolen only half a dozen bases across his collegiate career, he has been successful in 39 of 45 attempts in the minors, and this makes him a potent threat in a leadoff batting position.
